Javier AOIZ ORDUNA – EULOGY OF LIGHT
The hall of the Espai Cultural Obert (ECO) in Castelló exhibits, for the first time in this city, the work of the painter Javier Aoiz Orduna. This is a great success if we take into account the undeniable quality of this painter who, under the motto “Eulogy of light” shows us a selection of his landscapes and still lifes, both genres of a clearly classical nature. But let no one be fooled: the artist reinterprets, from the most absolute contemporary, still lifes, urban landscapes and more or less idyllic views.
In his still lifes are gathered the post-impressionist and historical avant-garde trends, which give the object a residual value, in favour of the study of light and colour. In them appears the magic of Van Gogh, the symbolism of Gauguin and, of course, the strength of Picasso or the rhythm of Matisse. Landscape is a fundamental part of his creative universe: in this genre, which has accompanied him since his beginnings as a painter, he has found an exceptional ally for his plastic conception. His cities, no matter how many kilometres separate them, differ in their silhouettes, but not in their treatment of light.
Javier Aoiz Orduna likes to use a palette of soft tones, sometimes faded, which give his paintings an atmosphere of mystery, a halo of mirage increased by the absence of figures or clear references to human presence. Then, who lives these places painted? The light, that light which imprints on his works an almost mystical purity. It is the clarity that appears when the storm exhales its last breath.
