COLOUR/NON-COLOUR: Whites in Western Culture

On Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 11:00 am, in the Madrid Fine Arts Faculty Grados Hall (Complutense University), the defense of my doctoral thesis, entitled COLOR/NO-COLOR: Los blancos en la cultura occidental (COLOUR/NON-COLOUR: Whites in Western Culture), took place. Before the Tribunal was constituted for this purpose, formed by Dr. Maribel Báez (president), Dr. Beatriz Fernández (secretary), Dr. Roberto Goycoolea (member), Dr. Sagrario Aznar (member) and Dr. Olga Cantos (member). My doctoral thesis was directed by Dr. Alicia Sánchez Ortiz.

It has been ten years of research and writing that have culminated in obtaining the highest possible qualification: outstanding cum laude. In this act, as Dr. Olga Cantos emphasized, I have felt absolutely supported by the presence of many of my loved ones: my mother, Lola Orduna and my aunts Mari Tere and Patro, my sister Pepa and my niece Leire, my friends Ángel Treviño, Miguel Palomar, Macarena Ruiz, Juan Carlos Burgos, José María Canalejas, Pilar Fernández, Montse Collado, María Ángeles Bernal, Alicia Pérez, César Cuéllar, Pablo de Juan, Isabel Ortega, Concha Sánchez, Teresa del Olmo. .. And, of course, my favorite photographer, Pilar Castañeda, with my dear husband Ramón de Juan. To all of them, thank you for your presence and support always.

After the Defense Act, and once the qualification was made public by the Court Secretary, we went to celebrate it with some beers and a lunch at the Restaurant of the nearby Costume Museum.
